BOOKS
There are many books that have been written on the subject of holidaymaking detailing everything from the local climate and what to see and do when you are on your holiday, but to be honest there are very few that cover the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. Listed here are a few books that you may find of interest when planning a holiday to the islands, the ISBN number so you can order them and a few other choice books that will help you get by on the islands.
Ibiza & Formentera Directions
Author: Iain Stewart.
Publisher: Penguin Group 2005.
Price:£6.99.
ISBN 1-84353-420-7
Another gem from the pen of Iain Stewart and an excellent choice for the would be traveller to the white isles. Ibiza & Formentera Directions is a new approach for the Rough Guide series of books and offers the usual excellent wealth of information, packed with maps, reviews and lovely full colour photographs, all within a very easy to handle pocket sized book. This book also offers something quite unique in the form of a free CD at the back of the tome that contains electronic versions of the product that can be read on most PDA machines or via Adobe Acrobat which makes the book far more useful than one may imagine.
As with the Rough Guide to Ibiza and Formentera (see below) Mr Stewart shows that he is very familiar with Ibiza and Formentera and presents a lot of information that any lover of the islands may well find new and very interesting. Highly Recommended.
The Rough Guide to Ibiza and Formentera
Author: Iain Stewart.
Publisher: Penguin Group 2003.
Price:£6.99.
ISBN 1-84353-036-5
The Rough Guide series of travel books is one of the most popular holiday information books that you can find and each book gives you a whole plethora of information, maps and images of the destination in question. The Rough Guide to Ibiza and Formentera is one of the best books available in the English language that covers the islands and this impressive book comes in at a massive tome spanning some 350 plus pages, including details on all the major resorts on both islands, images of some of the more famous places to visit, things to do and those ever handy maps of the islands.
The great thing about the Rough Guide series of books is that they are pocket sized allowing you to carry them around with you wherever you go and finding out information is as simple as looking it up on the index.
Each section is broken down into areas of the island (east, west, etc) and covers all of the resorts in that area before moving on to another area, and each will depict places to eat and visit, items of interest or historical importance. The book also gives a very detailed look at the history of both Ibiza and Formentera and the things that have shaped both islands over the years.
The photographs are in full colour and are on the whole very well composed and capture the mood and feel of the Balearics, but don’t expect hundreds of pictures in this book, there are only around a dozen pages at best!
The maps are one of the most handy things in the book, with some of the larger areas and resorts such as Ibiza Town and Dalt Vila being covered right down to street level in some cases and as such you can use them to aid you when your on the island.
Other items covered in this Rough Guide include emergency contact numbers, websites of interest and travel hints and tips.
If you buy any books about life on or travelling to the islands then this is perhaps the best one to have in your collection! Highly Recommended.
WHS: Ibiza Pocket Guide.
Author: Mark Gerrard.
Publisher: WH Smiths Books 2004.
Price: £4.99.
ISBN 1-841573-97-3
The WH Smiths Pocket Guides are nice little books in a small format that like
the Rough Guides allow you to slip the book into a pocket discretely and again
are extremely informative. Much like the Rough Guide series the Pocket Guides
give information on what to do and see, where to go, where to eat and emergency
numbers of use.
Unlike the Rough Guide series however this book is filled with lots of wonderful
images of both Ibiza and Formentera, covering everything from the golden sands
of the beaches too the night life and more. Although this book is not as in-depth
as the Rough Guide, it is still an excellent purchase that you will find yourself
thumbing through again and again. Highly Recommended.
Ibiza with Formentera Map (B&B Road Map)
Publisher: Berndtson & Berndtson
Price: £5.50
ISBN: 3928855670
An ideal choice of map here for the tourist that covers both Ibiza and Formentera and includes every street and road on both islands, as well as all items of interest and significance on the islands. Never get lost in Ibiza again!
Ibiza and Formentera Globetrotter Travel Pack
Author: Sue Bryant
Publisher: New Holland Publishers (UK) 2002

Another great value book that covers both islands and is packed with lovely photographs. At 128 pages it isn’t as detailed as the Rough Guide book, but still worth a look.
